Statement by the Prime Minister on the World Lacrosse Championship

On the occasion of Team Canada’s victory at the World Lacrosse Championship, Prime Minister Stephen Harper issued the following statement:

“On behalf of all Canadians, I wish to congratulate Team Canada for its outstanding performance at the World Lacrosse Championship in London, Ontario.

“Thanks to an outstanding team effort, the Canadian squad scored an impressive 15-10 victory over the United States, giving Canada its first world championship in 28 years.

“Lacrosse is Canada's national summer sport and a vital element of our nation's sports heritage. All Canadians take pride in this outstanding victory and thank the members of the team for a job well done.”

The 2006 World Championship will be hosted by Canada in July 2006.

The 2006 World Lacrosse London Corporation--which was the successful bidder--will host the Championship in London, Ontario.
